Janes Addicition

About Janes Addicition:
Jane's Addiction aggressively melds avant¬garde, funk, metal, and punk with raw sexual energy. Formed in the late eighties, the band stood out as an incomparable force. In an LA club scene convulsing with bands, Jane's became one of the most talked¬about and soon entered the mainstream with voracious force, cutting through the pop froth and hair metal popular at the time and influencing countless artists to come.
In the seventeen years since the original line¬up's last performance, there has been an ebb and flow of band formations and side projects until... In April 2008, Perry Farrell, Dave Navarro, Stephen Perkins and Eric Avery reformed to play again when British music magazine N.M.E. honored the band's legacy with their "Godlike Genius Award."
Energized by their chemistry onstage and fueled by an overwhelming fan response, the band continued to raise eyebrows with a series of small secret shows around Los Angeles. As photos of the band in the studio with Trent Reznor circulated online and speculative buzz grew louder, the artists finally confirmed what many hoped. Twenty¬one years after the release of Nothing's Shocking, the original line¬up of Jane’s Addiction had reformed for a 2009 Summer Tour with none other than Nine Inch Nails co¬headlining. Deemed the NIN|JA Tour, the bands, along with Tom Morello’s Street Sweeper, will hit the road in May '09. Jane’s Addiction will continue performing through the summer into the height of the US & UK festival season.
Jane's Addiction, from the start, featured four disparate personalities who came together as a thunderous machine on stage. Their various influences culminated in a glamorous and heady rock fusion of darkness, soul, aggression, and zealousness. Early performances gained the band a reputation for legendary live shows and many still regard those first¬run Jane's concerts as almost religious experiences.
Jane's debut studio album, Nothing's Shocking in 1988 was a mind¬expanding soundscape. It featured the rocking "Ocean Size" propelled by Navarro's shredding guitar, the ferocious "Mountain Song" and mid¬tempo "Jane Says." With their next album, Ritual De Lo Habitual, released in 1990, Jane's became bonafide rock stars and entered the homes of kids in cities and suburbs, cars and dorms. Both "Stop!" and "Been Caught Stealing” hit #1 on the Modern Rock chart and launched the album into the Top 20. Ritual’s mainstream success would pave the way for Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains and Nine Inch Nails, among others, to find their way onto the airwaves.
Jane’s Addiction next “creation” would unite what Perry Farrell refers to as “the alternative nation.” Conceived of by Farrell, Lollapalooza featured other unorthodox voices in an unlikely mash¬up that would lay the foundation for Warped Tour, Ozzfest, and stand¬alone festivals like Coachella and Bonnaroo. The debut Lollapalooza in 1991 featured Jane's, Siouxsie And The Banshees, Living Colour, Nine Inch Nails, Ice¬T and Body Count, Butthole Surfers, Rollins Band, and Violent Femmes.
After a successful debut Lollapalooza run, however, Jane's Addiction would disband. And while bands like Nirvana and Tool reaped the accolades that Jane's helped lay the groundwork for, the four members went their separate ways.
A Jane's Addiction "relapse" in 1997 featured longtime friend and Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea in place of Avery. A tour and the accompanying release of Kettle Whistle followed. In 2001 the band recorded Strays, their first new album in a dozen years with Chris Chaney on bass. Produced by Bob Ezrin (Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper, Kiss), Strays featured some of the band's best musicianship and the track, "Superhero," became the theme song for the HBO show Entourage. Unfortunately, as the 2003 Lollapalooza came to a close, the band again started to unravel and would break up again in 2004 amidst very public animosity.
In the years since disbanding, every member of Jane's has played with other musicians. To a man, though, they will tell you that the original Jane's lineup explores endless musical terrain. Today the legacy of Jane's Addiction remains intact as a beautifully gothic, romantic, decadent, hypnotic, swirling, bohemian celebration.
